The Skimmer 20 daypack by Osprey is designed especially to fit the female form, and it really does make a difference!
If you’re looking for a new bag for hiking, this ticks a lot of boxes. It’s a really good size for a one- or two-day hike (as long as you don’t need to carry overnight equipment) and even has a space for a 1.5ltr water reservoir.
Our tester said she had packed it quite full, but the moment it was on her back, the weight was distributed so well that it seemed to halve in weight – there’s also a waist and sternum strap to help level the load if you’re carrying very heavy stuff (the sternum strap is, pleasingly, secured with a magnet, so v quick to do up/undo!).
The ‘bucket’ top opens nice and wide, and there’s a smaller top pocket just behind the main opening, which is also scratch resistant, so great for storing sunglasses. Hidden away in the bottom is an integrated rain cover – it actually took our tester a while to locate it, it’s so discreet! For a full day’s walking, this pretty much has it covered – if you combine with the matching reservoir you’ll have plenty of room for all your essentials with no bulky drinks bottles taking up room, and the Airscape back panel means your back stays ventilated and comfortable.
Our only complaint is that we would like to see at least one more smaller, secure pocket (side pockets aren’t zipped) but that’s really all we can find that we would change. Happy hiking!
